Japan boosts Botswana Softball Association

Through Japan’s “Sport for Tomorrow” initiative, the Japanese Embassy in Botswana has given Botswana Softball Association (BSA) P617 502 to improve the National Softball Stadium and buy softball equipment.

Speaking during a ceremony organised to commemorate the stadium improvement initiaive and procurement of equipment, the Ambassador of Japan to Botswana, Kozo Takenda noted that softball has remained one of the most popular sporting codes in Botswana.

He further noted that the country was ranked high amongst softball playing countries on the African continent.

“This project is expected not only to facilitate a better training environment for players, but will also serve as a well-fledged stadium for official games,” said Takenda, adding that the government of Japan would continue assisting the people of Botswana in many ways in the future.

He also noted that it was the fourth project through which the government of Japan has extended support to Botswana through the cultural grant scheme.

The grant assistance scheme is related to the “Sport for Tomorrow” programme in which Japan aims to spread the value of sport and promote the Olympic and Paralympic movement worldwide leading up to the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo. Ends
