Maintaining gap between parents children gives room for delinquency-teacher

The Assemblies of God Church in Letlhakeng on April 1 evening held a cocktail dinner in recognition of its young congregants who were urged to found their lives on Christ as that was likely to lead them to successful lives.
Giving a word of motivation, the district officer-development, Ms Peggie Molefe reminded the young Christians that a Christian life was not just about going to church and reading the Bible, but rather required one to live Christ-like on a daily basis.
“While on earth we represent the image and life of Christ, it is ideal that on a daily basis we live and conduct ourselves just like Christ would,” she cautioned.
Ms Molefe said such required the right attitude and being exemplary to their peers, and even to the elderly.
For his part, the guest speaker, Mr Molaakgosi Kebalepile encouraged parents to always ensure they closed the gap between them and their children, saying the existence of such a gap often allowed delinquency to creep in.

Mr Kebalepile also indicated that it was the responsibility of the whole society and not just the church and school to give children responsibility at an early age to help develop their leadership qualities.

“Such responsibility can come either formally or informally and both forms are vital in moulding children, especially in this era where they face a lot of challenges,” he said.

Mr Kebalepile, who is a teacher at Mphuthe Junior School in Letlhakeng, indicated that the Ministry of Basic Education had an objective of moulding globally competent and competitive students.

He said it was good to note that the church was also playing a part in realising such objective.

“The nation is currently concerned about unbecoming behaviour by the youth. So we should applauded the church for its effort in playing its part by trying to build visionary young persons,” he said.

Mr Kebalepile also implored the youth of the Assemblies of God Church to be appreciative of their parents for raising them under a conducive Christian household.

The church youth representative, Orapeleng Mokgatla appreciated their parents and the church leadership for organising the cocktail dinner in their recognition, saying that the gesture would go a long way in inspiring them to a better future.

The aim of the dinner was to recognise all the young congregants who sat for the 2017 PSLE and Junior Certificate by rewarding the top achievers as well as motivating those who did not do well not to give up. Ends
