KBL explains shortage of canned soft drinks

Some retail outlets continue to experience shortage of canned soft drinks around the country.
In an interview, Kgalagadi Breweries Limited corporate communications manager, Mr Masegonyana Madisa said KBL was aware of the shortage of canned soft drinks in the market for the past months.
Mr Madisa noted that the situation emanated from the supply constraint in South Africa due to the sudden upsurge in demand in the period leading to the introduction of the sugar tax in that country.
“As a result, suppliers are struggling in meeting the local demand therefore they sacrificed export requirements,” he said, adding that they were aware of complaints from customers around the country.
Mr Madisa further explained that the shortage of canned soft drinks was not deliberate, and that KBL was looking at alternative ways to meet customer’s demands.
He said they had ensured that their PET lines were available to augment current supply.
He further noted that the supply of cans had resumed in smaller quantities and that plans were in place to redeem the situation.
“Due to the fact that our customers are important to us, we are in constant communication with them on this matter and have requested for patience while we do our best to normalise the situation.” Ends
