Permanent Secretary to the President Mr Carter Morupisi has encouraged companies to cultivate the spirit of self-reliance for the betterment of communities in all localities.
Speaking a the handing over ceremony of building material for Moroka Primary School hostels for learners with disability, Mr Morupisi said the project had demonstrated that Batswana still valued the spirit of self-reliance.
He said the event enhanced the fourth president’s plea to the nation to improve their communities through community service programme.
“Therefore I encourage you all to cultivate the spirit of self-reliance for the betterment of our communities in all our localities,” he said.
Mr Morupisi said support from the private sector and individuals had taken the nation far in as far as giving back to the community was concerned.
“Ladies and gentlemen, where we come from is very far and where we are heading is very near and this is due to the support from the private sector and individuals,”stated the Permanent Secretary to the President.
He said the Moroka Hostels for Learners with Special Needs project had received donations from various companies and individuals amounting to P1.4 million.
For his part, one of the donors, representing Dulux Botswana, Mr Moses Muyaluka said the theme when launching the Moroka Primary School corporate social responsibility initiative was centred around the words ‘...Wa o esi ga o ele and mabogo dinku a thebana’.
“This was based on the fact that government alone cannot cope with all the demands of the communities it serves,” he said.
Mr Muyaluka further said it was through such partnerships that the dream of providing a conducive learning environment for Moroka Primary School students had come true.
He said their mission as Dulux Botswana was to add colour to people’s lives by empowering the youth with skills in paint technology and application so that they could start their own enterprises or look for jobs.
He said so far his company had donated paints worth P77 000 in total towards Moroka Primary School CSR initiative.
Bae Nature donated 100 bags of tile adhesives and 10 backs of drought, AUM Hardware donated electricity materials, Plumb World Hardware donated bathroom materials while Mock Air Technologies contributed electrical materials and P5 000 cash. ENDS
