BCA 50 overs tournament underway

The Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) National 50 Overs Tournament which commenced last weekend, will continue with three matches slated for Gaborone, Lobatse and Francistown on Sunday.
According to the BCA secretary for fixtures and publicity, Sumod Damodar, the tournament comprises three teams from the northern region and four from the southern region.
Damodar said the southern region comprises of Shining Stars, Naledi Nomads and Kgale Kings from Gaborone as well as Southern Rocks from Lobatse, while the northern region has Phikwe Rangers from Selebi Phikwe together with Tati Raiders and Shashe Eagles from Francistown.
The BCA spokesperson explained that the competition will initially be played in a round robin format from 15 April to 3 June. The top two teams in each region will then proceed to the semifinals which will be held on 10 June while the final will be held on 24 June in Gaborone, he said.
In this weekend fixtures, Shining Stars and Naledi Nomads will clash at BCA Oval 1 on Sunday morning while Southern Rocks will welcome Kgale Kings in Lobatse in the southern region opening matches.
Phikwe Rangers on the other hand will host Tati Raiders in a northern region encounter on Sunday. Rangers are currently leading the northern region standings with two points after beating Shashe Eagles by six wickets last weekend.
Eagles batted first in that match and were restricted to 115 runs all out after 29.4 overs while Rangers made 119 runs for four wickets after 22.3 overs to win the match.
Meanwhile, BCA umpire Ravi Angara has been re-appointed to the International Cricket Council (ICC) Development Panel of Umpires for this year. “The ICC has just released their list of the Development Panel of Umpires for 2018 and we are pleased to inform you that Mr Ravi Venkata Angara has been re-appointed,” Damodar this week.
