League draws to close gaffers feel heat

17 Apr 2018

Following their 0-0 draw against Sankoyo Bush Bucks on Saturday at Maun Sports Complex, Orapa United head coach, Bongani Mafu has expressed disappointment about the results.

He however admitted that the league has entered a critical stage with every team eyeing to collect the needed three points to better their position in the log standing.

He said the remaining encounters would become tougher, calling for every coach and his players to strategise and ensure they produce positive results in order to chase the title.

Coach Mafu revealed that although a point was not bad Sankoyo was very lucky as some of his key players were not in due to  injuries. He noted that his boys had an upper hand in the first half  of the game noting that they could have buried the game in the first 10 minutes of the game but luck was not on their side. He also stated that the away games seemed to be a problem to his boys in terms of scoring noting that they experienced the same when playing against Tafic at Francistown recently.

Orapa United are currently in third position in the log standing with 44 points while Sankoyo arae in position 10 with 29 points.

On Sankoyo side, it looks like their hopes of securing a spot in the top eight are fading as they continue to lose points.

In the last encounter, Sankoyo suffered 2-1 at the hands of Township Rollers and this time they played to a draw against Orapa.

Only five games remain before the league comes under wraps and the question is will they win all to secure a spot in the top eight. For his part, Sankoyo head coach, Philani Mabhena admitted that they were facing a difficult moment. In addition, he stated that their dream of being amongst the top eight remained a tough call as they had to win all the remaining games.

“Mathematically we are hoping to win two away and two home as we believe those wins can push us somewhere,” he added.

With regard to their encounter against Orapa, Mabhena said his boys played with purpose as they put up a brave fight against a team that was equally desparate for three points. He also noted that his team missed some key players due to injuries.

During the game, Sankoyo showed no respect to the league title chaser from the first whistle as they blocked all the departments to deny their opponents a chance to score hence a draw. ENDS
