15 Apr 2018

Botswana Accountancy Oversight Authority (BAOA) and the Companies and Intellectual Property Authority (CIPA) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to allow both parties to provide training and information sharing regarding their specific products and service offerings.

“With a wide spectrum of similarities, there is bound to be among others, unavoidable overlaps of responsibilities, which could result in duplication of effort and uneconomic use of the country’s scarce resources,” said chief executive officer of BAOA, Mr Duncan Majinda at the signing ceremony.

Mr Majinda said the concerns through the amendments of the law could be a long and expensive process, hence the need for the MoU.

“BAOA will do everything possible to ensure the smooth commencement of this relationship and the BAOA board is dedicated to support and facilitate the implementation of this MoU so that its objectives are achieved,” Mr Majinda said.

On Behalf of CIPA, Registrar General, Mr Conductor Masena expressed that the signing of the MoU formally establishes a new strategic partnership between the two organisations, adding that the partnership provided an opportunity for both institutions to engage on matters of mutual interest and where necessary, pool resources together to promote operational effectiveness of both entities.
