Community leaders must address poor performance

18 Jul 2013

Kgosi Kedirile Letshabo of Molapowabojang has requested community leaders to address poor performance in schools in the Southern District.

Kgosi Letshabo said as leaders they were worried about poor performances in their areas and were eager to see things change in the district. He was officially opening the stakeholders consultative meeting in Kanye recently’.

Kgosi Letshabo said parents never looked at their children’s works, but only complained when the results were not good. ‘’Students spend most of their time in facebook, bars and love affairs,’’ he said.

He said every year results drop, an indication of lack of progress and urged all stakeholders involved in the education system to commit themselves to the progression of their children.

For his part, the chairperson of the Kanye Administrative Authority (KAA), Mr Patrick Ralotsia said alcohol consumption, love affairs and television were the major causes of poor results in the district.

The chief education officer based in Kanye, Mrs Maipelo Kesenye said the objective of the consultative meeting was to share ideas on how to improve the declining school results. Mrs Kesenye said it was also meant to revive parents teachers associations that she said were crucial in children’s education.

The meeting was also meant to encourage all retired personnel to be involved in schools and to help teachers. She appealed to the private sectors and individuals to adopt schools through the Adopt- A -School programme. ENDS
