Make durable bricks Motlhabi

Structures and Materials Research Group at the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Botswana is on a mission to technically and morally empower clay brick-making groups at Gaborone Dam Clay Site.

Ms Judith Motlhabi, a former student at the University of Botswana said during a youth empowerment event that she took samples of soil and wood ash from the site to make bricks, which she compared with those made at the site.

The research, she said, was to technically empower the groups based on laboratory investigations enhance the quality of the bricks they produced.

Ms Motlhabi advised the groups to always sieve and measure the soil together with the ash, noting that her aim was to help them make quality bricks.

Mr John Mosimanegape, a brick maker at the site thanked Ms Motlhabi for her assistance while Lobkom Investments, a construction company working in conjuction with Ms Motlhabi donated 10 wheelbarrows, 10 shovels and 10 rakes to the brick moulders. ENDS
