Tcheko Trust not operational
18 Jul 2013
A community trust that was established at Tobera in the Okavango Sub-district in 2000 is still not operational.
Tcheko Trust chairman, Mr Hakoka Xhoro said this in an interview recently. He said ever since the trust was formed in 2000 and registered in 2003, it had not carried out any significant development in the village unlike what happened in other settlements whose trusts had sustainable projects.
The chairman said part of the reason why there had not been any progress was due to the fact that there had been delays in allocating land for the trust. This, he noted, had made it difficult for them to acquire the necessary permits to start operating a tourism business.
He further said potential funders had asked them to draft a constitution which they managed to complete only to be informed by the authorities that land allocations had been stopped. “This really hindered our plans of getting funding,” he said.
Mr Xhoro said their plan was to emulate other community trusts operating in settlements like Khwai, Mababe and Sankoyo which he noted had contributed a lot in bringing developments in their respective areas.
Tcheko Trust, he said, had been in existence for 10 years now but due to the bottlenecks it faced, had nothing to show. ENDS
