Ngware Primary School head, Mr Robert Tshambane said that their long standing relationship with Mophane Primary School in Gaborone was welcome as it has immensely benefitted his school.
Speaking at a donation ceremony where Mophane Primary School donated some toiletry and clothes to Ngware Primary School learners recently, Mr Tshambane said that a few years back, Ngware Primary School was not performing well as it often registered in the region of below 50 per cent in the Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE).
He however said that since their adoption by Mophane Primary School, their fortunes had turned the corner as they now gradually hover around 70 per cent pass rate, citing the last PSLE where the school obtained 68.4 per cent.
Mr Tshambane also hailed the close working relationship between the staff and parents, saying it had also contributed immensely to the good academic performance of the school.
“At the moment, we never experience any drop-out challenge by our students, and this is due to the fact that parents are very involved in the education of their children. Apart from other factors such as ailments, we are always sure that our students will complete PSLE as a whole batch,” he said.
He said that the benevolence of Mophane Primary School and parents’ involvement would hopefully help the school achieve its target of 80 per cent pass rate in the next PSLE.
The school head, Ms Leah Maele made an assurance that the relationship between the two schools would live forever.
“We come from afar with Ngware Primary School and I do not see anything making us part. We will continue to work together and assist in any way possible to help the school improve its academic performance,” she said.
Ms Maele said that although the donation was modest, it was made from the deepest of their hearts, and promised that they would in the near future donate school uniforms to the reception class students at Ngware Primary.
The PTA chairperson, Mr Khumo Lebang encouraged Ngware parents to keep up the good work of being involved in the academic interest of their children.
He also urged them to give the teachers all the support needed, saying that without such support, all other efforts would be in vain. Such support, he said, included ensuring that students come to school clean and well fed.
Giving a vote of thanks Ngware Primary School pupil, Keabetswe Dibogare hailed the donation as a special occasion for him and his schoolmates and said it was their hope that Mophane Primary School would be blessed for their good hearts.
He also said that the donation would come as a lesson to students of Ngware Primary, that it was always a good thing to give to the less privileged rather than to always want to be donated to. ENDS
