BNSC visits Ghanzi Re Ba Bona Ha Centre

09 Apr 2018

Botswana National Sports Commission, sports development officer, Healer Modiradilo said they visited the Ghanzi Re Ba Bona Ha Centre to share experience and impart basic boxing skills on the boxers.

Speaking during a boxing training camp at the centre on Saturday, Modiradilo said the purpose of their visit was to interact with the boxers, train with them and hear their challenges.

He said the Ghanzi Re Ba Bona Ha Centre was opened in October 2017, and it had been doing well because when they last visited the centre it had seven boxers training there but the number had increased to 30 boxers, and that showed growth of the centre.

He gave credit to the centre management for showing passion in developing the boxing sport and for being committed to the centre.

Modiradilo said two years back, the boxing president toured the country to negotiate with Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Culture Development offices to assist in funding the centres and currently, the ministry was helping with transport to various tournaments around the country.

He urged other stakeholders such as the business community to come on board to help in addressing  challenges they faced, as they have to feed and accommodate athletes during tournaments.

Modiradilo said BNSC through Debswana sponsorship had managed to buy a kit for P20 000 for the athletes.

He said they would continue requesting for sponsorships and visiting the centres, as they are an important component of their programme. ENDS
