Media council necessity
03 Apr 2018
Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Eric Molale says the Media Practitioners Act of 2008 has not been implemented owing to the absence of the media council.
“The responsibility for implementation of the act lies with an independent media council, a body corporate consisting of all publishers of news and information from the public and private sector, managed by an elected executive committee,” Mr Molale told Parliament recently.
He said the act was not offensive and should therefore not be repealed. Selebi Phikwe West MP, Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse had asked the minister to explain how the act was being implemented and reasons why it should not be repealed. ENDS
