Take advantage of technical college - Masisi

28 Mar 2018

Vice President, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi has encouraged residents of Chadibe and surrounding villages to take advantage of the Satellite Rapid Skills Development Centre in their area.

Mr Masisi was speaking in Chadibe on March 27 at the ground breaking ceremony to mark the openning of the centre.

The centre will start by offering courses on bricklaying, plastering, plumbing, carpentry, painting, decorations, agro-processing and entrepreneurship to young people during the first phase.

More courses will be offered at the centre in the second phase.

Mr Masisi said government facilitated employment creation through vocational skills development and that the residents should take advantage of that.

He said a technical college would be built because the residents had long pleaded with government to build it.

He said the centre would be similar to the one that the residents asked for.

He stated that government was always eager to listen to pleas of the people.

He said 30 students had already been admitted to the centre and they had already started their bricklaying course.

Mr Masisi said the minimum duration of the courses would be three months and the period would depend on the course that one had applied for.

The Vice President pleaded with the students to focus on their courses and not to expect to be paid when they were studying.

He implored parents to desist from telling their children that they should be paid while studying at the centre.

Minister of Employment, Labour Productivity and Skills Development, Mr Tshenolo Mabeo said students who would have an opportunity to be admitted at the centre should take advantage of the technical college to develop and grow an alternative means of economic livelihood when they complete their studies.

He said since government could not employ all of them, they should create employment for themselves.

He said after the students had completed their courses at the centre, they would be able to create employment for others as they establish themselves in the world of work.

He said his ministry had opened a similar centre in Tsau in Okavango and other centres would be launched in Moreomabele and Thamaga.

He pleaded with the youth to take advantage of the centres.

MP for Sefhare/Ramokgonami, Ms Dorcas Makgato thanked all those who worked with her, especially the task force, councillors, VDC and dikgosi for being patient during all the talks and consultations on the issue.

She said all the materials that would be used during the construction of the centre would be bought in the area.

She implored the business community in the constituency to prepare themselves for the opportunity. Ends
