Presidency office bearers not under investigation - Molale

Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Eric Molale has told parliament that President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama, Vice President Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi and former vice presidents who served since April 2008 have never been the subject of any investigation by the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) nor have criminal charges brought against them.

Responding to a question asked by Selebi Phikwe West MP, Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse, who wanted the minister to state in respect of corruption and economic crime, the number of ministers including the President, vice presidents and Cabinet ministers since April 2008, who were questioned by DCEC.

Mr Keorapetse also wanted to know who was raided and searched including their properties and investigated for corruption and economic crime and charged, prosecuted and convicted or acquitted by migistrate, high court or court of appeal or had their charges withdrawn.

Minister Molale said from April 2008 to date, eight cabinet ministers have been questioned by DCEC and three have had their offices and residential properties searched.

He said all the eight cabinet ministers were investigated for suspected commission of offenses ranging from corruption, economic crime and money laundering.

He further elaborated that three ministers were charged and brought to trial before magistrate courts and out of these, two were charged and acquitted while the third case was withdrawn with liberty to reinstate the charges, adding that apart from the above cases, the rest are still under investigations.
