Network restoration on cards

President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama says network rehabilitation project is on cards to address challenges of leaking water pipes in Kanye. Speaking during a kgotla meeting to bid constituents of Kanye North and South farewell in Kanye on March 20, he said network rehabilitation would be done in Kanye to augment water supply in the area since a lot of water was lost through leakages.

President Khama said that the project’s design was complete and funds to start the project was available, adding that the tender for the project would start this year. He said boreholes would also be increased as a measure to address water challenges. He told constituents that Kanye would be connected to North– South Water Carrier Project to ensure sufficient water supply in the area. However,

President Khama expressed the wish for a five-year two-term office to be extended to Members of Parliament and councillors, pointing out that only dikgosi should be exempted from limited term of service.

He said that the move for a 10-year tenure would give other equally capable Batswana an opportunity to serve the nation in those capacities.

President Khama said such leaders as Former South African Statesman, Nelson Mandela would never be forgotten because his dedication in serving people was clear, thus it was imperative to follow the footsteps of such great leaders for the continent to achieve great things.

He gave Kobamo Obusitswe, popularly known as Raophethekga in poetry circles two beasts for reciting an impressive poem for him. He also gave a five-year-old poet, Thato Cave P100 for reciting a poem in honour of President Khama.

President Khama thanked Bangwaketse for showering him with gifts as well as for coming in droves to bid him farewell. He said he was so touched that the gesture would leave a long lasting impression in his heart. He commended Bangwaketse for upholding culture through Dikgafela, noting that such a gesture needed to be nurtured.

Kanye North and South constituencies showered President Khama with gifts ranging from 42 cattle, 13 goats, six sheep, seven horses, 66 chickens, two Ducks, 34 bags of maize, a framed message, framed poems, an English poetry anthology, a feeding trough, a bag of beans, five bags of lab-lab, a German-Print jacket, a sledge and cash amounting to over P81 000.
