IEC has not started sensitising citizens
21 Mar 2018
Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has not started sensitising citizens on the use of plot numbers with reference to the 2019 general elections.
Parliament was told that the issue forms part of the Electoral (Amendment) Bill of 2017, which is yet to be debated in Parliament.
Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Thato Kwerepe stated that the interfacing of Elections Management System (EMS) with Land Information System was still in progress and would depend on the completion of the Land Administration Procedures Capacity and Systems Project.
Further, Mr Kwerepe highlighted that the IEC would embark on extensive voter education ‘once the bill is passed into law’.
Member of Parliament for Jwaneng/Mabutsane, Mr Shawn Ntlhaile had wanted to know what steps had been taken by the ministry to inform Batswana of the implications of the registration of residential plots with reference to the 2019 general elections. ENDS
