No plans to lease farm - Minister Khama
21 Mar 2018
Chobe bushbuck is an endangered species and Elephant Without Borders (EWB), a non-governmental organisation based in Kasane was authorised to translocate the remaining species to Chobe farms in 2017.
Answering a question in Parliament, Minister of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism, Mr Tshekedi Khama said there was no formal agreement with the lessee of the farm, Mr Jonathan Gibson, but the animals remained the property of government.
Member of Parliament for Chobe, Mr Machana Shamukuni wanted to know if the minister was aware of Chobe bushbucks capture operation that was carried around Kasane area and some parts of the Chobe National Park, and if so, who carried out the capture operation, where the bushbucks had been translocated to and the owner of the property to which the bushbucks had been translocated, the current land use at the recipient property and if there was any agreement between government of Botswana and the lessee of the farm.
