Motlhware Trust elects new committee
19 Mar 2018
Motlhware Community Trust in Letlhakeng has been advised to make the completion of its constitution a priority as failure to do so would hamper the progress of the organisation.
Speaking at the trust’s annual general meeting at Letlhakeng on recently, Kgosi Tumelo Puleng indicated that the constitution was the keyword to all the trust’s activities, hence nothing much could be achieved until it was available.
Kgosi Puleng was giving advise after the outgoing chairman, Mr Tshenolo Babupi indicated in his report that they had not been able to finalise the constitution as it was still in the hands of a good samaritan who volunteered to assist them. “The person drafting the constitution for us was doing so as a good samaritan, but unfortunately every time we checked he was still busy with court cases, so we haven’t been able to complete the draft yet,” he said.
Kgosi Puleng also encouraged the trust to moot ideas that would bring profits into the trust for self-sustenance rather than just depend on donor funds. Kgosi Puleng also advised the newly elected committee to have the interests of the community at heart rather than pursuing personal interests.
Meanwhile Kgosi Puleng also advised the youth of Letlhakeng to make a habit of attending kgotla meetings as they were vital in the leadership of the village.
“Our youth are the ones mostly faced with challenges and they need to be given a vision for their own sake and that of the village, and where else can they get that advice apart from the kgotla,” he said.
Kgosi Puleng also indicated his concern at the failure of the general public to attend kgotla meetings, saying that in most cases, ipelegeng workers have been forced off their sites to come and fill up the kgotla as a face saving resort.
He however, said that this does not augur well for ipelegeng projects as this was likely to cause some delays.
For his part, the outgoing chairman, Mr Babupi indicated that leadership of community trusts was a challenge that needs total commitment, hence the need for trusts to make profits for consideration of allowances for trusts members.ENDS
