Govt put in place various funding schemes to facilitate youth funding

Applicants are required to submit supporting documents prior to allocation including proof of financial capacity to develop the plot when applications for commercial and industrial land are processed. This was said by the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing Development, Mr Nonofo Molefhi on behalf of the Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services in Parliament on Thursday. Mr Molefhi said it was on the basis of that information submitted by the applicants that plots were allocated.
“Government has put in place various funding schemes to facilitate access to funds by the youth,” adding that the ministry was of the view that some of the youth was able to access funding to develop the land allocated to them.
The minister said he was not aware that ‘commercial banks do not fund new businesses and that CEDA requires security for possible funding.’
“In terms of transfer of land, the procedure is that plots should be transferred only after being developed. Our ministry holds the view that transfers of land cuts across all age groups,” he said.
The minister was responding to a question from MP for Ghanzi North, Mr Noah Salakae who enquired whether the minister was aware that the land that they had been allocating to Batswana especially unemployed youth would be of no economic use unless the government considers assisting the beneficiaries to access financing.
MP Salakae also wanted to know if the minister was also aware that commercial banks do not fund new businesses and that CEDA requires security for possible funding. Ends
