Ministry rejects thirteen applicants
19 Mar 2018
Ministry of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services has rejected 13 people on account that their spouses already own plots on State Land, says Minister of Infrastructuire and Housing Development, Mr Nonofo Molefhi. Minister Molefhi said in the same period, Tati Land Board also rejected 409 applications on account of marital status.
He said the Ministry of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services could not issue a directive to Land Boards to allocate two residential plots to married couples because that was part of the provisions of the Botswana Land Policy, which was passed by Parliament in July 2015 and the ministry would only act once the amendment had been passed by Parliament.
Minister Molefhi said this when answering a question on behalf of the Minister of Land Management, water and Sanitation Services in Parliament on Thursday. Francistown South MP Mr Wynter Mmolotsi had asked the minister to state how many people in Francistown and North East were not allocated plots on account of the fact that their spouses already have plots in the last three years. He also asked when would the ministry issue a directive to Land Boards to allocate plots to people regardless of their marital status and what the ministry intends doing with the said citizens. Ends
