Team Botswana off to Gold Coast

19 Mar 2018

Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, Thapelo Olopneg has urged Team Botswana to the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games to be true ambassadors of the country.

Speaking at the team’s send off ceremony in Gaborone recently, Olopeng encouraged the team to display the spirit of sportsmanship and that of Botho that Botswana was well known for.

Minister Olopeng also cautioned the athletes against doping, saying only discipline and training could enhance their talent.

He said doping could destroy their talent and sport careers.

Olopeng further thanked the private sector for their support to sports development.

The team, which has been in camp since December, consists of 27 athletes, who will represent the country in athletics, boxing, bowling, swimming and weightlifting.

Team Botswana left for the games on Saturday.

The games start on April 4-16. Ends
