Moapare hails Khama

Kgosi Cosmos Moapare IV of Hukuntsi has lauded President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama for his remarkable footprints, which he is going to leave in the hearts of many people.

Kgosi Moapare said in his welcome remarks during a kgotla meeting where President Khama bid farewell to Kgalagadi North residents on March 15 that it was through President Khama’s visionary leadership that many lives were enriched.

He, Kgosi Moapare said, shone a light in the lives of the less privileged, women, Youth, elderly and people living with disabilities as they were supported through different packages to escape the knocks of poverty.

He also lauded him for upholding democratic principles by observing the presidential term as stipulated in the constitution of the country; something he said some nations failed to adhere to, ultimately leading to civil wars.

Further, Kgosi Moapare appreciated the President for taking it upon himself to address bogosi issues in terms of remunerations and the appointment of headmen of records so that they could also be able to discharge their duties diligently to serve their communities. In his remarks, President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama thanked the residents for the gifts they showered him with.

He said he would put them to good use, adding that he shall continue supporting different communities upon his retirement.

President Khama also extended his gratitude to the area Member of Parliament as he said had displayed audacity in performing his ministerial duties.

He further implored constituents to acknowledge their leaders since they were faced with huge responsibilities to address issues affecting them.

President Khama further lauded dikgosi for their stewardship in advancing the country’s development and said that they should be vested with more powers and not solely rely on politicians for National Development Plan issues. On other issues, President Khama implored the residents to uphold their cultural traditions as it defined their identity and urged the Nama tribe to preserve their Namastap dance.

Further, he implored public servants to establish private businesses in order to create more job opportunities as the country was challenged with sky-rocketing unemployment rates.

He added that their established businesses should be of beneficial upon their retirement to avoid exhausting their pensions and end up being impoverished.

For his part, area MP, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi also lauded President Khama for his visionary leadership, which he said was even recognised across borders, as he was bestowed with many awards from international organisations.

He also noted that their area was faced with water shortage, but through the President’s guidance, water reticulation plan from Ncojane to Kgalagadi North was already underway.

For her part, Ms Boipuso Moganetsi on behalf of people living with disabilities thanked the President for accessibility of ample services such as education, entrepreneurship and accommodation, which she said encouraged them to live dignified lives.
Youth representative, Ms Okathusa Thulaganyo also extended the same gratitude to the President as she noted that youth enjoyed the fruits of his leadership by benefiting from different programmes such as Tirelo Setshaba, Youth Development Fund and constituency tournaments.

She said it was through Presidential Arts Competition that some groups in their locality gained international exposure as they performed in countries such as Nigeria, Japan and Germany.

President Khama was also showered with praises from public servants, poet, Hunhukwe choir and constituents at large.

Meanwhile, Kgalagadi North Constituency presented President Khama with 30 cows, 68 goats, 23 sheep, 77 chickens, one donkey, six ducks, an electrified farm house, two 50kg bags of salt from Zutshwa plant, cash amounting to over P65 000. Ends
