BPC to connect Tewane primary kgotla to grid
15 Mar 2018
Tewane Primary School and Kgotla do not have electricity as both facilities were not included in the original Rural Electrification Project which commenced in 2014 and was completed in 2016, the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Mr Frans Van Der Westhuizen said.
Mr Van Der Westhuizen explained that at the time of the Rural Electrification Project, Tewane did not have the Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) grid line.
The village was only connected to the BPC grid during the 2016/17 financial year, he added.
“Tewane Primary School is planned to be wired and connected to the BPC grid in the upcoming financial year 2018/19,” Mr Van Der Westhuizen said.
He however mentioned that Tewane Tribal Administration office was of arbitration and due to financial constraints the ministry’s priority was courts of records.
Mr Van Der Westhuizen was answering a question from the Member of Parliament for Mahalapye West, Mr Joseph Molefe who had asked him if he was aware that Tewane Primary School and Kgotla did not have electricity despite the power supply having been completed under Economic Stimulus Programme in 2016.
MP Molefhe also enquired on when the school and Kgotla would be connected to electricity. ENDS
