15 Mar 2018
Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Prince Maele, says Kgalagadi Land Board allocated Phofhu Game Ranch to Phofhu Ranch (PTY) LTD in 2010.
Mr Maele told Parliament on March 13, in response to a question from MP for Selebi Phikwe West, Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse that later in 2010, the shareholding of the company changed to non-citizen.
He explained that the farm had never been transferred; only share holdings changed which happened at Registrar of Companies.
Mr Maele said he had not made a decision to consent on Phofhu Ranch (PTY) LTD Ranch. “An application for my consent has been submitted to Kgalagadi Land Board and the application will be treated like other applications for transfer of land to non-citizens,” he said.
Selebi Phikwe West legislator had asked the minister if he was aware that the farm near Kang known as Phofhu game ranch which was originally allocated to a syndicate of two citizens and one non-citizen had been sold to a company whose sole shareholder was a South African citizen.
MP Keorapetse also asked whether the minister was aware that the farm was transferred without any developments whatsoever having been undertaken and if he consented to the transfer in terms of section 24(2) of the Tribal Land Act and what action he intended taking regarding the matter. ENDS
