Mabuasehube campsites on trial basis
15 Mar 2018
Minister of Environment, Natural Resource Conservation and Tourism, Mr Tshekedi Khama says the public campsites in the Mabuasehube area of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (KTP) have not been leased to an individual or company.
The ministry, he said, had instead initiated a pilot model campsite currently on trial basis with a view to adopting it countrywide ‘if it is successful.’
Answering a question in Parliament on March 14, Mr Khama reported that the engagement was not advertised as it was a pilot to operate model campsites which could be used to inform future campsite developments by the ministry.
He further noted that he had no connection with the lessee save for that they were both Botswana citizens.
Member of Parliament for Selebi Phikwe West Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse had asked the minister if it was true that the public campsites in the Mabuasehube area of the KTP had been leased to an individual or company.
He also asked the minister whether the lease was advertised by public tender and what connection the minister had with the lessee. ENDS
