14 Mar 2018

Four student nurses from the Institute of Health Sciences- Francistown on Monday handed over a newly built house to Mr Obert Simon of Nlapkwane village.

The nurses were attached at Nlapkhwane clinic for their community assessment where they identified the psychiatric patient Mr Simon as the beneficiary of the project.

Giving the project overview project coordinator Mr Jethro Amos said it was challenging for them to carry out the project.

However he highlighted that Nlapkhwane community came through for them as they donated building materials and also offered manpower.

He stated that because of the partnership and commitment from everyone the construction of the one roomed house became a success and was completed within two months.

Mr Amos indicated that as caregivers they subscribed to the notion that shelter was a necessity hence saw it fit to uplift Mr Simon by providing him with shelter.

Head of clinics in the North East district Ms Mavis Motshelanoka commended the student nurses for identifying such a big project which they fulfilled with dignity and hard work.

She stated that as nurses it was important to study the community and learn common challenges and issues in those areas.

She indicated that had the students stayed at the clinic and not interacted with the villagers they would not have identified the psychiatric patient.

Ms Motshelanoka further stated that the student nurses had proven that they were committed children who would not give them trouble when they joined the job market.

Receiving the house on behalf of her son, Ms Masisi Simon thanked the student nurses for their good hearts.

She stated that she had moulded bricks to build her son a house but challenges kept coming forcing her to  suspend the construction.

Ms Simon said she was thrilled when the student nurses told her that they were interested in building her son a house. Ends
