Preparations for hosting the Confederation of University and Colleges Sports Associations (CUCSA) games are going on smoothly.

Botswana Tertiary Students Sports Association (BOTESSA) president, Herbert Letsebe said this at a press conference in Gaborone recently.

He said Botswana was given the right to host the 2018 CUCSA games scheduled for June this year, adding that 10 countries would compete in different sporting codes such as football, softball, badminton and netball.

The games will be played in different facilities among them Lekidi Centre, the National Stadium, Botho University and Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN).

He said in preparation for the games they would be holding BOTESSA athletics championships on March 17 at the University of Botswana Stadium, adding that all their athletes who had qualified from their three brackets would compete.

“It is at these athletics championships that we are going to select a team that is going to represent Botswana during the upcoming CUCSA games for the first time in the history of BOTESSA. We will be having special needs athletes competing in 100 and 200 metres,” he said.

He said they had included softball to be part of the CUCSA games, adding that the code had never been part of the games. He noted that  they would be taking their softball team to Harare to sharpen their skills.

He said the other activity was the BOTESSA bracket championships that would be held in Selebi- Phikwe in April. He said national teams of different codes would be selected for the CUCSA games.

“All the games that are coming up the intension is to prepare for the CUCSA games. We are trying to pick up the national teams of various codes so during the bracket championships we will be having football, basketball, volleyball, netball and softball. At the end of the games we are hoping that we will have solid teams that will represent the country with pride,” he said.
