Botswana 800m runner, Boitumelo Masilo made a great come back from injury by winning 1 500m race during the Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) Super Night series held at the National Stadium on Saturday.Masilo, who has been sidelined by injury opted for a long distance on the day.

He proved to be strong more especially in the last 400m of the race as he opened a gap between him and the second person behind him.

In the last 100m mark, it was Masilo against the clock and he cruised to the finish line with a time of 3:58.72.

Second to arrive at the finish line was Tsholofelo Thoke with 4:05.46 while Julius Monyeki settled for position three with 4:12.20.

Masilo said after the interview that he was happy with his performance adding that although he was sidelined by injuries, his body was responding very well on track.

In the race, he said he would be doing his normal 800m where he was aiming a very impressive time.

“For now everything is fine, the doctor has cleared me and I am ready to compete and my aim is to clock 1.44 so that I can communicate with my manager to compete in Europe,” he said.

His coach, Mogomotsi Otsetswe said they opted for 1 500m because 800m race was a demanding race and wanted to access him properly after he was cleared by the doctor.

“I was watching him very closely during the race and I can confidently say he was not limping and I also monitored his stretch and pace, he was on point,” he said.

Meanwhile, in the 5000m men final, Sherpard Kenatshele finished first with 15:08.31 followed by Matlapeng Sesebo with 15:08.95 and on position three was Onkarabile Peolwane with 15:26.60. In the women’s 200m race, Ontiretse Molapisi finished first with 24.59 followed by Yvonne Thomas with 25.61 while Gosego Mokokwe settled for position three with 25.78.

Omphemetse Poo won the 400m with 47.87 followed by Tumelo William with 50.42 while Joseph Joseph clocked 51.31 to finish on position three. Ends
