City council adjourns to appreciate ward challenges

11 Mar 2018

Francistown City Council adjourned its full council meeting at the chambers to take to the people in town.

This came after the council accepted a motion proposed by specially elected councillor, Mr Zazabimbi Tuelo in which he proposed that the council should adjourn and visit all wards to appreciate challenges that councillors had long complained about.

He explained that the reason of the proposed motion was due to a lot of action items and resolutions on their agenda which lacked implementation.

He also said they had to match talking with taking action and that the motion would show how uncomfortable they were with the status of things.

He also explained that in visiting the sites it would in implementing action faster than when they were conversing at their offices.

Another councillor from Tatitown, Mr Ramolotsana Gaethusi said as councillors they should be practical and less theoretical.

He said they should be able to show the people they were leading action without promising them action only in theory.

On other issues, the mayor of Francistown Ms Sylvia Muzila updated the full council on plans to revitalise the city.

She noted that in one of those plans would be Ntshe House whose maintenance would commence this year. She urged the leaders to inform the public on the inconvenience they would be caused.

Ms Muzila said they were still concerned about the high number of undeveloped plots in the city.

She said while many plots remained undeveloped there were many people who were in dire need of plots for different kinds of developments.

She pointed out that there were 432 undeveloped plots in the city as sampled by the Department of Lands.

“We are currently struggling to find plots for community development projects while on the other hand we have plots that remain idling,” she noted.

She pointed out that the allocation of plots at Gerald had taken long and urged councillors to work together to ensure that the city was developed.

She said they should embark on educating people about the importance of investing resources given to them to sustain themselves.

She noted that such empowerment schemes were not forever, and that people needed to utilise them effectively while they had the opportunity.

She also encouraged the youth to pay back their loans as it would help them in future when they needed financial support from other programmes. Ends
