Land ministry drafts proposal
06 Mar 2018
Parliament has been informed that Ministry of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services is drafting proposals for review of the Land Policy to be presented to Cabinet.
Responding to a question asked by Member of Parliament for Francistown South, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi, Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Prince Maele said he was expecting to present the policy proposals to Parliament after approval by Cabinet before July this year.
Minister Maele said the ministry was also in the process of developing a Land Information System, which includes computerising and management of waiting lists, which would ease identification of plot applicants and the purpose.
Mr Maele said he was aware that a motion calling on government to allow heirs to inherit places on the waiting list was passed by Parliament in February 2017.
He said since then his ministry had been carrying out consultations on the review of land policy, including management of waiting lists adding that the review of the Land Policy would enable the ministry to revise relevant pieces of legislation.
MP Mmolotsi had wanted to know the progress made in the implementation of a motion which was passed by Parliament requesting the minister to review all pieces of legislation that bar the allocation of land to beneficiaries of deceased applications. ENDS
