There are seven borrow pits allotted to the contractor (CCC/CSEC Joint Venture) for the construction of Gaborone-Boatle road project.
Minister of Infrastructure and Housing Development, Mr Nonofo Molefhi told Parliament on March 5 that the environmental impact assessment of all the borrow pits was done and approved between 2008 and 2009.
He noted that currently, out of the seven borrow pits under jurisdiction of the contractor, only five had been opened and operational.
In addition, he said it was envisaged that all the seven borrow pits would be required for use under the project.
The minister was responding to a parliamentary question on behalf of Minister of Transport and Communications.
MP Samuel Rantuana of Ramotswa had wanted to know how many borrow pits had been allocated to the company constructing the Ramotswa-Boatle road and when the environmental impact assessment of those borrow pits was done and how many were operational. ENDS
