Prisons officers donate to Lephoi Centre

05 Mar 2018

Botswana Prisons Service senior officers have donated girl’s school uniforms, boys' trousers, hats, shirts, jerseys and vests purchased through the P8 160 they raised when they attended their annual conference in Francistown recently.

The UCCSA run Lephoi Centre was identified by officers as the most deserving institution.

Speaking at the handover, Deputy Commissioner, corporate services, Ms Keneilwe Bogosing explained that every year during their annual conference they donate to the less fortunate members of the host community to restore dignity to the less privileged.

“The President of this country has always said it is the responsibility of every Motswana to help restore dignity to those that are struggling. Restoring dignity will help mould them into upstanding citizens of this country,” she added.

She pleaded with the centre’s leadership to continue caring and loving the students as it would go a long way in their lives.

In his welcome remarks, Lephoi Centre board chairperson, Mr Unangoni Mangole said the government helped the centre in different ways, and that it was not shocking to see a government department donating to the centre.

Mr Mangole further noted that the centre started operating in 1985 with only five students, adding that it had grown tremendously over the years as it now housed 44 students, and that it had a capacity of 54.

He added that students performed well in their studies as well as in their extra-curricular activities. ENDS
