Women must be at forefront of development issues - Tshireletso

Local government and rural development assistant minister has complained that society does not fully appreciate the importance of engaging women in developmental issues and decision-making processes.
Officiating at a seminar organised by Mma Mosadi Movement, a woman empowerment movement at Mahalapye on March 3, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso said women were faced with many challenges to deal with daily.
As a champion of women advancement, Ms Tshireletso said women empowerment and equality were not issues of justice alone, but were also key aspects of development.
She said the event offered women a platform to network, explore their hidden talents and barriers that hindered their advancement.
“This gathering is also important as you will also be motivating women to tap into their abilities and talents.”
By so doing, Ms Tshireletso said those with low self-esteem would gain more confidence and engage in various activities that would improve their lives.
“A confident woman can become anything she wants and can do almost anything that her male counterpart can do,” she added.
She said the movement would not be able to bring together all the women, but the few that they had reached out to would make a significant difference.
Ms Tshireletso said the steps taken by Mma Mosadi Movement had a potential to change the lives of many.
She urged more women to support the movement by coming on board.
Meanwhile, an entrepreneur and motivational speaker, Ms Amo Ramoleko advised Mma Mosadi Movement to be focused on what they desired to achieve.
She said success needed good planning, work ethic and hard work.
“Success is a recipe and failure is one of the ingredients towards attaining desired goal,” she said.
Ms Ramoleko urged Mma Mosadi Movement members to work hard, be persistent and surround themselves with people who could help them achieve their dreams.
"Embrace failure in your life, it would drive you into the right direction and help you identify your potential,” she said.
According to one of the members, Ms Marea Otlaadisa, Mma Mosadi Movement offered women a platform to tell their life stories, share experiences and empower one another.
Ms Otlaadisa said the movement was coming up well and hoped that through proper nurturing it would go far in supporting women.
Elaborating on the theme of the seminar, Unleashing Talent, Ms Girlie Tshireletso said that the aim was to release talent in women.
Some women were not aware of their potential and they would need someone to come forward and unleash it, she said. ENDS
