Government to build technical college in Chadibe
04 Mar 2018
Government is going to build a technical college in Chadibe in the Sefhare/Ramokgonami constituency.
Addressing a kgotla meeting in Chadibe recently, Vice President Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi said that the technical college would be built because the residents had long pleaded with government to do so.
He assured the residents that the technical college would start to operate this year and P20 million had been put aside to start the first phase of the technical college.
The courses that will be offered during the first phase of the technical college will be bricklaying, plastering, plumbing, painting, decorations and agro- processing.
Mr Masisi said that some of the courses that would be offered after phase one of the technical college would be tourism, agro- mechanics and entrepreneurship.
He said the issue of the technical college started way back in 2006/2007 and was from the villagers and was communicated by thev Village Development Committee (VDC).
Mr Masisi said when the issue of the technical college was relayed to Cabinet, the Member of Parliament for Sefhare/Ramokgonami was Mr Oreeditse Molebatsi and the Minister of Education at that time was Mr Jacob Nkate.
He said Mr Nkate had the same views with the residents because he also believed that a technical college should be built in their village.
Vice President said that there were long talks, consultations and comprehensive review of the issue and government found it important to build the technical college.
He said the technical college was however deferred because there was no money to build it, explaining that the technical college had to be in the National Development Plan (NDP) 10, but it was stalled because there was economic recession at that time.
He applauded the residents for making a wise decision to ask for a technical college instead of a brigade because technical colleges were more advanced and they adequately prepared learners for the world of work.
Mr Masisi thanked the MP for Sefhare/Ramokgonami, Ms Dorcas Makgato and the residents for their patience.
The executive director for Construction Industry Trust Fund (CITF), Mr Busie Moepi said that the project would not only benefit the construction workers, but small businesses as well.
Ms Makgato thanked all those who worked with her, especially the task force, councillors, VDC and dikgosi for being patient during the consultation periods on the issue.
The ground-breaking ceremony for the project will be on March 20. ENDS
