Strong community partnership helps fight crime - headman
01 Mar 2018
Tsamaya headman of arbitration, Mr Mbulawa Mbulawa has applauded community partnership in his village saying the move has helped in fighingt crime.
In an interview with BOPA, he attributed the low crime rate in their village to strong ties between the village leaders, public servants and the community as a whole.
He said they held meetings where the community came up with measures to fight crime, adding that the neighbourhood watch was yielding results.
Mr Mbulawa noted that as chairperson of anti-crime committee together with his colleagues, they encouraged residents in every cluster to know their neighbours and be whistle blowers if they suspected any dodgy acts on the neighbourhood.
He highlighted that in the past, there were cases of house break-ins especially in teacher’s quarters and other public servants houses, adding however that during the past festive season, no house break-in cases were reported.
This, he said was because public servants had engaged security officers to watch over their property while away on holiday.
The headman indicated that plans were at an advanced stage to install two tower lights in the village through the constituency funds.
He highlighted that they had identified the spots where the lights would be mounted, adding that this would ensure Tsamaya was a safer village during the night.
Mr Mbulawa said the lights should be up and functional before end of March because Botswana Power Corporation had already been paid.
In other issues, he stated that they were grateful for the recent rains which he said were very calmer compared to last year where storms destroyed some houses.
He indicated that livestock would benefit from the rains as the river and dams were overflowing.
He said the good rains had ensured that Tsamaya dam would feed their livestock for some time, adding that the dam also served neighbouring villages like Mabudzane and Jackalas 2.
Mr Mbulawa said Tsamaya residents still believed in farming, hence would resume farming if the ploughing season was extended further. ENDs
