Devote to education - SAA chief
28 Feb 2018
Serowe Administrative Authority (SAA) subordinate council chairperson, Mr Mpho Kooreme has urged primary school pupils in his territory to devote to education.
Speaking during a Mr and Miss SAA best couple fundraising donation event at Lady Khama Hall, Mr Kooreme appealed to the pupils from seven handpicked schools to benefit from the donations and couple their quest for learning with Botho.
That way, Mr Kooreme was convinced, pupils would be poised to perform at their optimal best academically.
The SAA chairperson, who is also a councillor for Swaneng exalted teachers for their devotion towards building the country and also being moulders of every professional the country had ever produced.
He said that his administrative authority recognised and appreciated the role of teachers as pillars in nation building.
In his speech interjected by praise for players who ensured the success of the event that culminated in donating full school uniforms and toiletries to 14 students from selected seven schools in the SAA territory, Mr Kooreme extolled fellow councillors and SAA officers for committing to charitable works.
He said the donation was a demonstration of a working relationship between political and administrative wing of his subordinate council.
“We just sampled a few among multitudes of pupils that are in dire need,” said Mr Kooreme, who expressed his joy that they dignified a few lives who would don school uniforms in good shape like many of their fellows at their respective schools.
The SAA vice chairperson, Mr Atamelang Thaga hailed the Mr and Miss SAA pageant initiative and called for concerted efforts in rendering it a huge success this year.
In fact, the vice chairperson drummed for support and sought means of intensifying campaign towards the event by way of aggressive marketing and hyping of the event.
“I feel honoured to stand here and tell you that you are the first subordinate council in the whole Central District Council that stood up to such a charitable cause,” said Mr Thaga, who is also a councillor for Serowe South Central.
The Mr and Miss SAA pageant was a brainchild of occupational health and safety committee that sought to go beyond their call of duty and raise funds to uplift the lives of the needy students who were not covered by the council’s social and community development programme.
The pageant raised P6 700 with some officers and councillors augmenting the funds by purchasing toiletries as per their choices.
The SAA intends to reach all the 31 primary schools in their area in the next donation. Ends
