Over P19 million for ministerial cars
27 Feb 2018
Parliament has been informed that 28 ministerial vehicles were recently bought for full ministers and assistant ministers.
Answering a question in Parliament on February 26, the Minister of Transport and Communications Mr Kitso Mokaila said 18 of the vehicles were BMW 740s for full ministers, while 10 were BMW 530s and are for assistant ministers.
Mr Mokaila said these were bought to replace the 10-year old ones whose motor plans had expired and could not be extended further.
He noted that the vehicles had started to be costly on maintenance.
Meanwhile Mr Mokaila said the cost of the cars for full minister was P14.3 million while the cost of cars for assistant ministers was P5.5 million.
He however said the CTO would retain the best five of the old ones for use during VIP official visits while the intention was to auction the remaining ones to Batswana.
MP for Francistown South Mr Wynter Mmolotsi had asked the minister to state the number of new ministerial cars that were bought recently, the cost of the cars for ministers and assistant ministers respectively, the total spent on all the cars purchased and what the old cars would be used for. ENDS
