Constituency tournament Khamas legacy

27 Feb 2018

Constituency tournaments are some of the legacy that President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama will be leaving behind.

South East District chairperson, Phenyo Segokgo said this during the official opening of the constituency sport tournament region eight finals in Ramotswa on February 23.

He said each leader has programmes and projects that he wants to implement towards developing the people he leads.

Segokgo said President Khama introduced the competitions to develop youth competitiveness in sport and arts.

The tournament, he said, was primarily geared towards improving the lives of young people and their talents, adding that many young people were gifted in various talents.

Therefore, he appealed to young people to hone their talents so that they could get the best out of that they were gifted in.

Segokgo said sports does not only contribute to the wellbeing of participants, but could also be a source of income.

Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, acting South East District coordinator, Atamelang Themba said the competition has helped young people to stay away from alcohol and wayward behaviour.

She also appealled to the youth to keep alcohol away from the games, noting that the games were an effort to keep them away from alcohol and indiscipline.

She appealed to the competitors to display good sporting conduct, adding that indiscipline could not help anyone to be a better person.

Themba further added that  constituency sports tournaments helped the young to be competitive and grow their talents.

She noted that competition in its nature was healthy as it gave athletes an opportunity to help each other to grow into better athletes.

Themba further encouraged those who would not win to learn from the winning teams, so that they could emulate their success during the next competitions. Ends
