Learners absorption tracking plans afoot

Minister of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology, Dr Alfred Madigele says the total number of upper level completers by year 2012 to 2016 is 170 604. Dr Madigele told parliament recently that the proportion of students who finished upper level secondary education and got absorbed into formal and technical tertiary from 2012 to year 2016 is 82 032.

He said the total number of students absorbed in TVET is 6 102, the percentage for formal tertiary education is 48 per cent, while TVET IS 3.57 per cent. Minister Madigele said the Human Resource Development Council was currently in the process of developing a labour market observatory and the labour market information which would be able to track students and provide information on those who would be absorbed in the job market.

This was said in a response to a question from Ghanzi North MP, Mr Noah Salakae who had asked the minister on the proportion of students who finished upper level secondary education and got absorbed into technical tertiary education in the past five years and formal tertiary education in the past five years.
