Choir sings way to State House

Residents of Kumakwane were on February 23 in a jovial mood as President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama paid them a visit.
The visit, which was an evening session for the elderly persons, comes just few days before he steps down from the presidency.
President Khama not only donated goodies to the residents but also extended invitation to Kgosi Chomie Seboni to accompany the village choir to State House. This was after Sand Spot Choir got the President dancing to the amusement of the residents. Donated items included chairs, blankets, soccer kit, footballs, food parcels, Bibles and sweets for children.
In his brief visit to the village, President Khama said he knew that the residents had been longing for his visit as the area Member of Parliament had been inviting him to Kumakwane. President Khama who was shaded in a tent provided by a poverty eradication beneficiaries, appreciated the beneficiaries for having offered to render their service for free.
However, he said the beneficiaries would be paid for half of their service and the other half would be their contribution towards his farewell as they had wished.
On other issues, he promised to make follow up on the construction of classrooms at Kumakwane Primary School as well as the construction of staff houses at the junior school which were reported to be behind schedule.
He was responding to Kgosi Seboni who had stated that the staff houses project was behind schedule. He had also said that out of the two houses which were to be constructed at the primary school, only one had been constructed but it was not electrified nor connected with water.
He further stated that out of the four houses which were to be built at the junior school, none of the houses had been constructed and as the leadership , they had not been given any explanation.
Kgosi Seboni further decried students congestion at the village primary school adding that some classes were held in the open.
However, he said the village had secured a plot in which another school could be built in order to help the existing one.
Kgosi Seboni further said the land board had not been allocating residential plots in the village for a long time.
For his part, the area Member of Parliament, Mr Tshenolo Mabeo said as Khama vacated the office, Batswana should emulate him on time management, adding that President Khama was a man who knew how to manage time.
He encouraged beneficiaries of various empowerment programmes to take their projects seriously as they were the legacy that President Khama was leaving behind for them. BOPA
