Oral health way to healthy lifestyle
25 Feb 2018
Oral health has been described as one of the ways to keep a healthy lifestyle.
Speaking at the launch of Oral Health Programme at Linchwe Primary School on February 23, principal education officer, Mr Bryn Kanafi said grooming children to a healthy lifestyle paves a healthy way and prosperity in their lives.
As far as health is concerned, he said nothing could be done when one was not healthy.
Thus, he said it was best for students to learn at an early stage that they had to take care of themselves.
Mr Kanafi urged students not to deviate from the lesson they learnt on the day on how to take care of their teeth and the kind of food to eat to avoid tooth decay and other dental or mouth deficiencies.
He also thanked GlaxoSmithKline for giving the students an opportunity to interact and learn from them and hope that their journey continues to inspire other companies to join the ministry on achieving its objectives.
Officially launching the programme, OSA marketing campaign manager, Ms Leigh Browne said they were honoured to be part of the Ministry of Basic Education for the past four years and were pleased to announce the programme that catered for both students and parents.
She said they decided to include parents in the programme as guardians to the students on how to take care of their teeth and ensuring that they monitor their routine so that they obey the rules.
Ms Browne said the programme targeted students over six years of age.
She encouraged students to brush their teeth three times a day for at least two minutes to make sure all the food particles were removed from their teeth to avoid cavities.
Ms Browne said the programme was for 25 primary schools countrywide and would go on for 21 days each term so that they would be able to monitor and reward the best school and three students, who completed the programme. Ends
