21 Feb 2018

Moshupa Sub- district Council chairperson, Mr Sonny Phiri has informed councillors that the implementation of constituency community projects programme would continue in the next financial year.

Mr Phiri said this during the Moshupa Sub -district Council session on Monday, adding that P10 million would be allocated each constituency to undertake identified community projects.

Mr Phiri explained that members of his community had been consulted and memorandums for identified projects had been prepared and would be presented to different structures for consideration and subsequently submitted to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development for approval and funding.

Mr Phiri told councillors that the projects funded for the 2017/18 financial year were progressing well.

He shared that the installation of solar powered street lights across Moshupa/Manyana constituency had commenced and was expected to be completed soon.

The chairperson said 320 out of the expected 475 poles had been installed across the constituency to date, and 116 people had been employed in the process.

Mr Phiri however said Botswana Institute of Training Research and Innovation was lagging behind with regard to solar fittings and feared that further delays might affect the project schedule.

On other issues, Mr Phiri said the construction of a post office and LA2 house at Magotlhwane were both at roof level while the construction of brick moulding yard at Lekgolobotlo was at brick work below windowsill.

Mr Phiri also revealed that the construction of an LA2 house in Ntlhantlhe and Kgomokasitwa Day Care Centre were at ring beam level respectively.

As for Seherelela, Mr Phiri said the construction of two LA1 houses was progressing well while Dintsana kgotla shelter was at roof level.

He said the council had contracted consultancy design work for Ntlhantlhe River Pedestrian Bridge to Lesedi Consulting Engineer.

The consultant, he said, was on the site working on the preliminary report data collection from residents adding that the exercise was scheduled to run up to the end of April 2018, following which construction would be undertaken.

Meanwhile Mr Phiri said two projects being the construction of a community hall in Ranaka and Village Development Committee house in Sesung had yet to start.

He explained that the tender process for the Ranaka project was at an early stage while the funds which were initially intended for building houses in Sesung would be used to connect electricity. ENDS
