MAA to blacklist dishonest companies
20 Feb 2018
Molepolole Administration Authority (MAA) chairperson, Mr Botokanyana Motoroko has called for the blacklisting of companies that constantly fail to honour their contractual obligations.
Speaking during the official opening of the Molepolole/Lentsweletau Sub-District Council on Monday, Mr Motoroko said the issue needed to be seriously looked into as it impacted on the delivery of services to communities.
He said to avoid incidents whereby the council failed to deliver, it was important that action should be taken against individual constructors.
The recommendation follows incidents where feeding in all the primary schools in Molepolole/Lentsweletau Sub District was hindered by the supply of cooking gas by a company engaged to offer the service.
Most of the supplied food commodities to schools in the sub-district, Mr Motoroko said, got damaged as cooking was affected by the none availability of the required supply.
Meanwhile, the sub-council chairperson reported progress on the procuring of decentralised food commodities in most primary schools.Another milestone reported by Mr Motoroko was the preparation for the implementation of the revised primary school menu following the price approval of some food items such as eggs, vegetables and fruits.
Mr Motoroko said in an effort to improve environmental health issues in most primary schools, a decision was taken to modify toilets in 36 schools to cater for reception classes at a cost totaling P300 000.
He said the modification was to ensure the availability of age appropriate toilets.
The council was also briefed about the increasing crime rate in Molepolole. Mr Motoroko said despite various community policing strategies aimed at fighting crime in the village, the sub-district was constantly registering alarming numbers of various crimes.
He said in the previous year, 164 cases of house breaking were reported.
The council was also informed about the conclusion of tender appeals under LG 109 projects.
He expressed optimism over the fact that the completion of appeals would lead to the commencement of projects that were halted by the appeals.
He appealed to councillors to play a meaningful role in supporting the implementation processes.
He noted that 50 community projects had already started, and that three were completed while 84 were delayed by the supply of paving bricks as cases were under appeal.
He said the MAA Sub-Council, through the Department of Bye-Law, has impounded 177 livestock that were roaming the streets of Molepolole.
He said 128 cattle had since been collected by their rightful owners after the required amount was paid.
Molepolole, the chairperson highlighted, continued to go for days without the provision of portable water.
“Despite all remedial actions put in place by WUC such as maintaining damaged boreholes and attending to broken water pipes, the situation has not improved and has led to the community engaging in undesirable activities to show their displeasure,” stated councillor Motoroko. Ends
