Self Allocation of Land
18 Feb 2018
Mahalapye Sub-land Board cannot allocate residential or ploughing field plots at Mmadiperetla because the area is zoned for communal grazing, says the Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi. Mr Moipisi said he was aware that there were incidents of self-allocation of land at Mmadiperetla.
He noted that according to Mahalapye Development Plan of 2002-2032, the area is zoned for communal grazing and people who are already in the area have self-allocated plots. Mr Moipisi stated that ‘the area is zoned for communal grazing, hence there is no minimal land servicing planned for the area.’
“Cases of individuals who claim to have been allocated by dikgosi before land boards came into being are currently before the land board for consideration,” he said.
The minister was answering a question from MP for Mahalapye West, Mr Joseph Molefe who wanted to know if he was aware that self-allocation of land was prevalent at Mmadiperetla settlement in the Mahalapye extension area. MP Molefe requested the minister to state when Mahalapye Sub-land Board would allocate residents of Mmadiperetla residential plots and ploughing fields.
The MP also wanted to know when minimum land servicing of these settlements like provision of water would be carried out and what procedure would the sub-land board follow for individuals who claimed to have been allocated land by dikgosi or land overseers. Ends
