15 Feb 2018
Ntlo ya Dikgosi chairperson and Batlokwa kgosi kgolo, Kgosi Puso has described President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama as a true servant who executed his duties with dedication.
Kgosi Puso made the remarks during President Khama’s farewell kgotla meeting in Tlokweng yesterday (February 15).
“You have served this Republic to the best of your ability, which is what you took an oath for,” said Kgosi Puso.
He said leadership was never an easy task and President Khama had managed to contribute significantly to the development of the country and its people.
He commended the President for his leadership which was characterised by consultations and engagements with his office.
He said it was through the tenure of President Khama that Batswana became more proud of who they were.
Further, he said the President among others, stood for the improvement of bogosi and their working conditions as well as developing sport and culture.
Furthermore, he said President Khama was instrumental in ensuring that there was a land quota for locals during plot allocations in villages neighbouring Gaborone
On the other hand, President Khama thanked Kgosi Puso and Batlokwa for having noted his contributions towards developing the country.
He said it was not easy to introduce the land quota system as Parliament had rejected the idea but he intervened as the head of state.
He said the laws of the country allowed everyone to settle wherever they wanted, but he noted that villages surrounding Gaborone were having more pressure as everyone wanted to settle near the city.
He told Batlokwa that government was in the process of negotiating with some owners of farms surrounding Tlokweng with an effort to buy land for them.
However, President Khama regretted that despite government’s effort to help Batlokwa to own residential plots, some continued to sell their plots which defeated the efforts.
In addition, President Khama commended public officers for their role in serving the public and contributing towards improving the lives of the disadvantaged.
He was responding to remarks from Mr Golesedi Mashapa who commended the President for his role in developing the public service.
He said initiatives such as the 10-point agenda, wellness days, public service days and others had facilitated the officers to serve better.
In Tlokweng, President Khama was given seven cows, four goats, two sheep, three portraits, six chickens, 41 Bibles and a P47 000 cheque, among others. Ends
