BOTESSA champs weekend

Botswana Tertiary Students Sports Association (BOTESSA) will hold its Bracket A national athletics championships on Saturday at UB Stadium.
BOTESSA public relations officer, Duncan Segabo said in an interview that the stage was set for all athletes to prove their mettle on track.
He said there was no doubt that the meet would be very competitive since the winners would during the competition qualify for BOTESSA championships scheduled for March 17.
Furthermore, Segabo said the winners would also stand a very good chance to qualify for being selected for the lucrative Gaborone International Meet and Confederation of University and College Sport Association (CUCSA) games.
“The programme for the day will have 100m, 200m, 400, 800m, 1500m, 5000m races, triple, high, and long jumps, discus, javelin and short put,” he said.
He said members of bracket A were colleges of education, Institute of Health Sciences and Police college, while bracket B and C would hold their competitions next weekend in Gaborone and Serowe respectively.
Botswana Athletics Association (BAA), vice president, Kenneth Kikwe said as the association, they also monitor athletes who did well during such competitions.
BAA, he said just like Botswana Integrated Sports Association, took BOTESSA as their development side, hence they always ensure that they always deploy their members to monitor the competition
“Some of our affiliates have members in BOTESSA and not only athletes, but they also have officials. In fact as BAA, we have trained both officials and coaches in our effort to ensure that they produce good products,” he said.
Kikwe said even during the championships, BOTESSA use their timer so that their times could be recognised.
Meanwhile, Bracket B were last year crowned BOTESSA athletics national championships winners after scooping 17 gold medals. Ends
