Project does not exceed budget - Maele
14 Feb 2018
The cumulative amount spent on Sowa Block 3 project since its inception is about P63 million out of the approved P95 million.
This was said by the Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Prince Maele in Parliament on Tuesday.
He said the project has not exceeded the approved project funds, and that the final audit report would indicate excess payments (if any) and that appropriate action would be taken.
Minister Maele further explained that the Sowa Town Council engaged Signon as the contractor and Group Consult Global as supervising consultants who both self-terminated their respective contracts.
He told Parliament that the ministry took over the implementation of the project and appointed TTCS Consulting Engineers as the audit and supervising consultant, and that they had since been paid about P4 million.
Mr Maele also said the ministry appointed Skylark Engineers as the contractor, but that due to non-performance the contract was terminated and they were paid P1.5million.
Mr Maele also stated that the project audit was ongoing and would be concluded during project closure.
MP for Nata/Gweta, Mr Polson Majaga had wanted to know the amount of money used in Sowa Block 3 plots since inception, and the list of companies engaged on the project that failed and the amount paid for work done. Ends
