14 Feb 2018

Francistown will for the second time in a row host The Mascom Top 8 final.

And it will be a tussle between Township Rollers and Orapa United at Francistown Sports Complex on March 3.

Addressing the media at Lekidi on February 13, the tournament’s LOC vice chairperson, Moreo Modisenyane said the decision came after agreement among all stakeholders to take the match to Francistown.

“We were looking at a number of reasons, one major reason being the capacity. Our ultimate goal is to see full capacity at the match. We want to take a greater number and as you know the Francistown stadium is actually the biggest in the country,” he said.

Modisenyane also said they wanted to take the game to the people, hence taking it to the North so that the people in the North can also enjoy the game of football since no top 8 games were held in the North this season.

He said in terms of preparations he said they were working round the clock to prepare for a  sucessful final.

“Our priority is to make sure safety is number one; safety of spectators, safety of vehicles and property,” he said .

He said they were ready in terms of security but would confirm the number of security personnel deployed both inside and outside the stadium as well as guard dogs.

Modisenyane said they were intending to have an evening game like the previous final.

For his part, Mascom chief Marketing officer, John Kgomotso said as the sponsor, they were excited about the choice of the stadium mainly because history had revealed that they Francistowners are football lovers.

Premier league CEO Thabo Ntshinogang pleaded with spectators who will be travelling to the final to prepare well in time saying the first 500 people to buy tickets from each stand will receive a discounted amount of P10 from the initial ticket price.

Rollers advanced to the final after winning Jwaneng Galaxy by an away goal rule after a 2-2 draw in Lobatse and a 1-all draw in Gaborone whilst the Ostriches go into the final after kicking Gaborone United by a solitary goal to nil in Orapa and a 4-1 win leading to an aggregate 5-1 win. Ends
