12 Feb 2018

CLETEM Electricals in partnership with Botswana Fibre Network (BOFINET) has connected a wireless Internet network and donated laptops, tables and chairs to Serorome Primary School in Palapye.

Handing over the donation at the school, BOFINET corporate services executive Mr Oaitse Gabadirwe, said the donation would go a long way to improve teaching and learning.

He said through their corporate social responsibility, they managed to donate 10 desktops and LAN connections to enable file sharing of knowledge and information.

He said government, private sector and civil society aimed to build an informed, knowledgeable and IT literate society.

Receiving the donation, the school head Ms Kgomotso Kgosiepelo thanked BOFINET and CLETEM Electricals for the donation, particularly the provision of Internet to her school.

She said her school experienced a decline in academic results in 2015 dropping from 87 per cent ABC pass rate to 71 per cent in 2016.

She said currently the school was still grappling with improving academic results, adding that availability of Internet in the school would help both students and teachers improve their work.

She urged the two companies to continue giving the school support.

For his part the MP for Palapye and also the Assistant Minister of Basic Education Mr Moiseraele Goya added that collaboration with stakeholders was a way of restoring public confidence in the education system.

The day was held under the theme: Stakeholders engagement, a key to quality education.

Mr Goya said the theme was precisely coined to demonstrate the fact that stakeholders were a necessity and perfect vehicle through which academic excellence could be realised.

He too applauded BOFINET and CLETEM Electricals for the donation, adding that stakeholder participation in education was very critical.

He said partnerships were vital in the education sector, encouraging the private sectors to partner with the government to grow the standard of education in Botswana.

Kgosi Samuel Maforaga of Serorome ward urged the community to be exemplary as they were young people’s role models.

He urged the community to instill a sense of discipline on children and teach them respect adding that it took a village to raise a child. Ends
